Shirley Jackson is exceptionally crafty and the book has been well written. However, despite of the book being extremely horrifying, the writer managed to bring a little bit of humor and laugh right into the horrifying storyline.

Having made into the New York Times best selling novels list, this did not actually come as a surprise; it is well crafted and it is one of those books that will give you sleepless nights. What if you were the dark shadows everyone in the neighborhood felt, but not even one of them acknowledged? The story takes place in a small town where a young baby is taken once in a while and replaced. The pinnacle of it all, the young baby dies right after the switch has been done. The story centers on one replacement that has managed to lived mysteriously right into his teens.
The House Of Leaves by Mark Danielewski
When it comes to a haunted house, the writer can pull a very magnificent and scary story if the house is the scariest character; Mark Danielewski seems he knew this for that is exactly what he did in this novel. After coming back from a trip, the Navidson family discovers there was something completely wrong with their house. The doors were no longer where they left them, new passer ways had been formed and the staircases lead to nowhere. From time to time, the family reports to have heard some low growls in the house. Technically, the whole is more like a puzzle than even a book for it is packed with series of typographical hijinks and that is page after page. It is worth checking out.

If you are a big fan of Shirley Jackson books, you clearly need not be told that this novel owes a lot to ‘The Haunting Of Hill House’. Much of the work and ideas that have gone into the creation of this awesome book have been largely borrowed form Shirley Jackson book. The only difference, of course, could be that the book has been kept in a much later date and is less unnerving; however, the storyline will scare the hell out of you.
